TWIXMAS BREAK

What to do at Twixmas time?

Christmas and New Year’s Eve mean different things to different people. But one way or another, both tend to end up in a festive party. With the two big celebrations a few days apart, though, there’s often a lull of activity in between. And this can be a little awkward (especially if you’ve got family to entertain). Should you rest and eat leftovers? Or prepare for the new year?

We think it’s the perfect time to get out and have a festive adventure or two! If you need to fill the gap between crackers and the countdown, read our guide for some Twixmas inspiration.

-

Explore a museum or art gallery
Twixmas is the perfect time to visit an art gallery or museum. Locals and tourists will be recovering from a big Christmas bash, so crowds should be quieter. Just remember to check opening times in case they’re closed for a festive break.

-

Go for a walk in the countryside
We all love a roast turkey dinner and lavish cakey dessert on Christmas Day. But post-Christmas, many of us want to walk off those extra calories! Going for a stroll or hike in the English countryside is a lovely way to spend a Twixmas afternoon, and can be enjoyed alone (if you need to escape) or with your nearest and dearest.

If you fancy making a mini-break of it, we’ll supply you with comfy accommodation for resting up after your outdoor adventure.

Keep the Christmas spirit going
Not had chance to tick off all the activities on your festive to-do list in the run-up to Christmas? There’s no reason you can’t indulge just because the big day itself is over. Grab your Santa hat and take to the ice at an outdoor rink, see a Christmas show or be wowed at an outdoor light display.

Take a look at our guide to winter activities for further inspiration here.

Enjoy a restful spa day
If you’ve just hosted a big Christmas gathering and want to recoup before the New Year’s Eve stint, nothing beats a spa day. (Except for a spa day followed by a good night’s sleep.) Consider booking a stay at one of our amazing hotel and spa locations for some much-needed rest and relaxation – and bring the family along, we’ve got plenty of room. You can indulge in a back massage and facial while the kids play with their new Christmas gifts.

See friends and family
It’s not always possible to squeeze everyone we love round the table on Christmas Day, so why not use Twixmas to pay a visit to special someone you may have missed? Make a getaway of it and meet in the middle for good food, good company and good times.
