How to choose a wedding theme that reflects you

Your wedding is one of the most important days of your life, so of course you want it to reflect who you and your partner are as people. Deciding what theme to go with on your special day can be difficult – do you go with a classic theme or something a little more personal?

We’ve shortlisted some popular wedding themes for you to take inspiration from.

What is a wedding theme?
A wedding theme is the central concept you plan everything else around. The theme will affect décor, music, attire and even the location of your wedding.

Your wedding theme can reflect something about you as a couple; something about your personalities, or even something as simple as a shared favourite colour. A theme can also be external – the stylings of a particular era (think Art Deco or Regency) or it can be inspired by a favourite book or TV show.  What’s important is that you pick your theme because it’s something you and your partner love.

Popular wedding themes
Bohemian
Bohemian, or boho style, is characterised by its eclectic mix of colours, patterns, and textures. Boho is all about that down-to-earth energy, which you can capture on your special day with an outdoor location, a semi-formal dress code, and natural fabrics like macramé, rattan, and leather. Bohemian décor often features warm tones (oranges and reds with hints of pink) complemented by green and brown earth tones.

Nowhere brings this this theme to life quite like Stratford Manor Hotel. The Warwickshire venue’s Midsummer Night’s Dream and Rome & Juliet packages will appeal to free spirited couples and old school romantics, who lap up the boho vibe.

Regency
Thanks to the hit Netflix series Bridgerton, the Regency aesthetic has surged back into popularity. Commonly known as Regencycore, you can expect endless opulence; crystal chandeliers, gold furnishings, and ornate decorations are all staples of Regency décor. Traditionally, monochrome pastel is the choice when it comes to a colour scheme. The main colour of Regency weddings is white, complemented by pastel shades of pink, purple, or blue.

For a true Regency-inspired wedding, have your special day at Oulton Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort. Built during the Regency period, you can really live out your Bridgerton fantasy here.

Botanical
Saying your vows surrounded by vibrant greenery and fragrant flowers sounds picture perfect to us. Typically, a botanical theme focuses on the foliage rather than flowers usually found in weddings. If you do want to include some floral elements, roses, lilies and baby’s breath are popular choices.

Your spoilt for greenery across The QHotels Collection. Standout choices include The Park Royal Hotel & Spa with its Garden Suite, a suntrap room flooded with natural daylight and Dunston Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort. Live out your botanical themed dream day in The Garden Marquee, set in 150 acres of beautiful grounds with room for 250 guests.

Minimalism
Minimalism tends to make for an elegant, clean wedding look. Sharp lines, simple colour schemes and a classic dress code all make for a traditional minimalist look. Minimalism is often combined with a black and white colour scheme for the décor, location and wedding favours. This theme has the added bonus of making the happy couple stand out even more.

Rustic
From wood accents to characterful locations, a rustic wedding is for those who love a less formal, but still fun, theme. Usually taking place outdoors, or in an refurbished barn or outbuilding, a rustic wedding is best held in the summer to ensure bad weather doesn’t ruin your special day.

If you’re looking for an ideal setting for a rustic wedding, come to Chesford Grange Hotel. With a Tudor-style mansion house as a backdrop and gorgeous outdoor spaces to hold your ceremony, Chesford Grange makes the perfect venue for a rustic wedding.
