How to relax on a reading getaway

Looking to make a dent in your TBR pile? Reading getaways – the latest trend on BookTok - are the perfect way to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, unplug and get down to some serious page turning.

Think calming views, cosy vibes and all your fictional favourites. Perfect as either a solo trip or with friends – as long as they bring their own books – you don’t need activities and sightseeing, in fact, you don’t even need to leave the hotel if you don’t want to.

Sound good? We’ve got some great tips to help you plan the perfect reading getaway.

Curate your reading list

Really think about how many books you can get through on your getaway.

While you may think it takes you a while to finish a book – perhaps you only read on your commute, or when you have a few free hours at the weekend, if you’re doing nothing but reading all day, you’ll find you get through more chapters than you first thought.

You’ll also want to decide what genre(s) you’ll take with you. Do you want to read thrillers or romances the whole time, or do you want to genre hop for a more well-rounded reading experience?

Pack the essentials

Comfy clothes are a must on a reading getaway – fuzzy socks, an oversized hoodie, your favourite loungewear. You can even bring a blanket if you really want a cosy experience.

Bring a selection of your favourite snacks, your go-to tea, and even your favourite mug for the best comforting vibe.

If you have an e-reader, don’t forget to pack a charger!

Book a package

The last thing you want to worry about when you’re fully immersed in a story is finding somewhere to eat. Book a package that includes breakfast and dinner so when your tummy rumbles you can simply head over to the restaurant. Delicious food and a good book, what more do you need?

BUT WHERE TO STAY?

First built in the early 1600s, Crewe Hall truly shows off the best of Jacobean architecture.

Settle down with a story in our Great Library, one of the most beautiful rooms in the whole hotel. Featuring stained glass windows, frieze lines and a stunning strapwork ceiling, you’ll find the atmosphere helps you get lost in your novel.

If you’re looking for somewhere cosier, consider pulling up a chair in one of our drawing rooms. Designed for conversation, they’re the perfect place to form an impromptu book club to discuss your latest read with your fellow travellers.

If you want to do a little bit of sightseeing in between novels, consider staying with us at the Stratford Hotel.

Keep the peaceful vibe going - grab your TBR list and set up camp in our lounge for the day. You’ll have a comfy chair, a table for your drinks and snacks, plus the low hum of activity as the perfect background noise.

Stretch your legs between books and head into Stratford-upon-Avon to visit some Shakespeare-themed attractions. Visit the Bard’s birthplace, Anne Hathaway’s cottage, or just go for a wander down the River Avon for some fresh air.
