Golf can change lives - why The Big Golf Race matters

Golf has always been about more than birdies, bogeys and scorecards.

It's about friendships built over four hours on the course. It's about conversations that might never happen anywhere else. It's about supporting one another through good rounds and bad. And sometimes, it becomes a platform to make a genuine difference beyond the fairways.

Earlier this summer, that spirit was on full display as The QHotels Collection proudly hosted The Big Golf Race at Oulton Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort in partnership with The PGA and Prostate Cancer UK

The challenge saw sixteen golfers take on an incredible 54-hole marathon - walking almost 18 miles in temperatures exceeding 30°C - all to raise awareness and vital funds for Prostate Cancer UK.

While the physical challenge was impressive, the real success of the day wasn't measured by birdies or scores.

It was measured by conversations.

Golf Has a Unique Ability to Bring People Together
One of the reasons golf continues to grow is because it naturally creates opportunities for people to connect.

Unlike many sports, a round of golf gives you four or five hours with the same group of people. There are conversations between shots, laughs after good holes and support after bad ones.

Those conversations matter.

During The Big Golf Race, leading golf content creators, PGA representatives and ambassadors all came together with one shared purpose, to encourage more men to talk openly about their health and raise awareness of prostate cancer.

It was a reminder that golf clubs aren't simply places to play, they're communities.

Why Men's Health Matters
Prostate cancer is now the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men in the UK.

Yet many men still avoid talking about their health or seeking advice early enough.

One of the aims of The Big Golf Race is to change that.

By bringing golfers together and using the reach of the wider golf community, important conversations become easier to have.

Sometimes all it takes is a conversation walking down the fairway to encourage someone to get checked or complete the online risk checker.

That's why initiatives like this are so important.

More Than One Day
The Big Golf Race wasn't simply a one-off fundraising challenge.

It's part of a much wider partnership between The QHotels Collection and Prostate Cancer UK that continues throughout the year.

Across our golf resorts we're committed to supporting fundraising, raising awareness and helping golfers play their part.

That includes donating 10% of every Prostate Cancer UK charity golf day booking back to the charity, helping organisations raise even more money while enjoying a fantastic day on the course.

It's one small way golf can continue making a difference long after the final putt has dropped.

A Game That Gives Back

Whether you're playing a weekly medal, enjoying a society day or heading away on a golf break, it's worth remembering that golf has the power to create far more than great memories.

At The QHotels Collection, we're incredibly proud to work alongside The PGA and Prostate Cancer UK to support initiatives that make a genuine impact both on and off the golf course.

Every Golfer Can Help

You don't have to complete 54 holes to make a difference.

Every golfer can support men's health by:
• encouraging friends to get checked if they're at risk,
• taking part in a charity golf day,
• organising a fundraising competition at your club,
• or signing up for your own Big Golf Race challenge.

Golf has always had a fantastic reputation for bringing communities together, and events like this show exactly why.

Planning a charity golf day?

If you're planning a charity golf day, why not host it at one of The QHotels Collection's championship golf resorts?

For every Prostate Cancer UK charity golf day booked with us, 10% is donated back to the charity, helping support life-saving research, awareness campaigns and support services.

You can also sign up for your own Big Golf Race, raise funds, and help spark conversations that could save lives.
