Now that I have recovered from a serious bout of man flu,
I'd firstly like to apologies for cancelling the members meeting on
the 26th February at such short notice and secondly to
remind you it has been rescheduled for Wednesday 12th
March at 6pm.
It has came to our attention a number of members don't
have up to date contact details, next time you're in, please take 2
minutes to double check. This will help us to keep you up to date
with some goings-on around the club.
We are still looking for some names so that we can enter into
inter club competitions this year. Please let me know no later than
17th March if you are looking to take part.
At the end of this week we'll be switching over from our
old handicap software to the new Club V1 system. Club V1 is a far
more interactive system and is also compatible with the 'How Did I
Do' website.
We will keep you posted with updates on this, on the build up to
opening day.
Sign up sheets for the opening day scramble aswell as the
summer knockout competitions will up in the changing rooms from the
10th. Please be aware places for the opening day are
limited so it's first come first served.
Over the next week or so you'll notice in the shop that
we're taking delivery of stock for 2014. We are continuing our
relationship with Mizuno and will now be stocking a selection of
their clubs; they will also be supporting a number of events
throughout the season so keep a look out for some fantastic prizes
that could be won. If you are looking at buying something new to
add to you golfing collection that we don't have in the
shop be sure to ask as we might be able to get it cheaper than
you'd pay elsewhere.
We're having a membership drive at the club just now, in
which we have had a number of new members over January and February
and we ask that you help us spread the word about the course and
recommend it to your friends. As a reward for doing so, all new
members that you recommend will receive one month free and as a
bonus so will you!
Golf News
Rory's at it again Rory McIlroy let slip a two-shot
lead and lost in a play-off at the Honda Classic in Florida while
world number one Tiger Woods withdrew injured.
Northern Ireland's McIlroy, who carded a four-over-par
74, missed a 12-foot eagle putt at the last to win outright.
American Russell Henley won a play-off, which also
featured compatriot Ryan Palmer and Scotland's Russell Knox, with a
birdie at the first extra hole.
Woods was forced to withdraw on the 13th hole because of
back pain. The American hit a five-under-par 65 on Saturday to move
into contention but was five over in his final round when he
quit. His withdrawal comes six weeks before the Masters at Augusta -
the first major of 2014 - which takes place from 10-13 April.
"It's my lower back with spasms," said Woods, 38. "It started
while I was warming up."
McIlroy admitted he was fortunate to have reached the play-off
after dropping six shots in 11 holes from the seventh, including a
double-bogey six on the par-four 16th where he hit his ball out of
a bunker and into water.
He followed that with another bogey on the 17th, which left him
needing a birdie on the last to get into the play-off at eight
under.
The 24-year-old gave himself a chance of victory though with a
stunning second shot on the par-five hole that finished 12 feet
from the hole but he was unable to hole the eagle putt that would
have won him the title.
"I didn't play well enough to deserve to win,"
McIlroy told the PGA tour website.
"It's very disappointing. It was a perfect opportunity to win.
No one was really coming at me.
"There's a few positives to take, but obviously it's going to be
hard to get over because I had a great chance to win my first
tournament of the season and I didn't."

Paul Lawrie to miss Morocco event to watch Aberdeen's Cup
final.
Paul Lawrie has confirmed that he will miss next month's Trophee
Hassan II so he can watch Aberdeen
play in the Scottish
League Cup final on 16 March.
The 45-year-old had previously said it was a dilemma as he was
still chasing points needed to
qualify forEurope's Ryder Cup team.
But the 1999 Open champion confirmed his intentions in a
question and answer session on social media site Twitter.
"Yes, going to the final," said the Aberdonian about theMorocco
event.
Aberdeenface Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Celtic Park
- the Dons' first major final for 14 years.
The Trophee Hassan II is being held at Golf du Palais Royal from
13-16 March.
Lawrie helped the Europeans retain the Ryder Cup at
Medinah in 2012 but lies 68th in the European
Tour's current points table ahead of the 2014 event at
Gleneagles.
Scotland's best hope of having a home player qualify for Paul
McGinlay's team is Stephen
Gallacher, who lies in 14th place.

Green Keeper update
As we begin the month of March it has been reported by the met
office that this winter has been the wettest on record for Scotland
with 697mm of rain falling. As we move into spring the optimism for
blue skies
remains strong. I hope you'll spare a thought for the green
keepers who have been out on the course everyday fighting against
the horrible conditions in an attempt to keep the course open. I'm
sure you'll agree the job they have done on the greens is fantastic
and the condition they are in for this time of the year is a credit
to them. Their schedule of winter works is going to plan so far,
albeit altered slightly to deal with some adverse weather and the
hope is with some improvements in the weather they'll have the
course in a fantastic condition for the opening day on
12th April.
