Local people that live in residential areas around nine of our QHotels can now drop off waste packaging that can't be recycled by the council to a public collection box at each hotel. Not only will this to reduce landfill it will raise money for local charities at the same time.

The nine QHotels included in this are, Ashford International Hotel, Chesford Grange, The Midland, Crewe Hall, Norton Park, The Stratford, The Park Royal, Bridgewood Manor and Oulton Hall.

Recycle Week takes place from 22-28th June 2015 and this years theme 'recycling around the home' is the perfect time for people across nine of our local communities to get involved and make a difference. Local councils are doing just that and enabling residents in various communities to recycle certain types of waste products and packaging such as biscuit wrappers that can't be recycled by the council and so would otherwise end up in landfill and in the process they earn funds for nominated local charities.

Nine of our hotels act as a public drop off location administrator for their local area on a number of recycling fundraising programmes for hard to recycle types of waste set up by a social enterprise called TerraCycle. TerraCycle works with over fifty major brands in twenty countries across the globe to collect used packaging and products that would otherwise be destined for landfills.

Hilary Archibald, Group Rooms Division Managerat QHotels commented: "We have signed up nine of our QHotels to act as a public drop off location on TerraCycle's McVitie's Biscuit Wrapper Brigade. This recycling programme makes it possible for our customers staying at the hotel and also the people of local community areas to now recycle waste packaging, which is too difficult or costly for the local council to recycle. As a result we are raising valuable money for local charities chosen by each of the hotels.

"2015 Recycle Week is the perfect opportunity to help spread the word to local communities to let them know that they can now recycle biscuit wrappersto our clearly marked collection box situated at nine QHotels across the country.

Stephen Clarke from TerraCycle added: "QHotels is doing a great job in providing people in various local communities the chance to recycle a number of additional types of waste packaging that can't be accepted by the local council and so would otherwise go to landfill. We encourage local people to drop the types of waste accepted at the collection box at all nine hotels and tell their friends and family to do the same."

The collected waste is recycled into generic plastic products such as park benches, watering cans and waste bins, slowing the need to extract new resources from the planet.

Our nine hotels have sent in 11,074 wrappers in 25 shipments which has raised a total of £442.96 for various charities so far. in the latest biscuit wrapper competition. Ashford International and Chesford Grange came within the top 20.

The details of the QHotels public drop-off location are listed on the TerraCycle website. To find out more or find your nearest participating location please visit: http://www.terracycle.co.uk/en-UK/
