Historic York crowned top mini break destination for 2015

  • York tops the list of mini break destinations for 2015
  • Historical attractions most important factor when choosing a mini break destination
  • More than one in 10 (13%) Brits expect to go on more mini breaks in 2015

York - with its wealth of history and charm - has been named the top mini break destination for 2015 in a new poll from AA Hotel Group of the Year 2014-2015 QHotels.

QHotels commissioned YouGov to discover which parts of the country Brits are planning on exploring in 2015 and what they look for from a mini break destination. Historic York came top of the list of mini break destinations, with 37% of respondents saying they would consider a trip to its cobbled streets this year.

The city was followed by Shakespeare's birthplace Stratford-upon-Avon (24%), while the historic university cities of Oxford (23%) and Cambridge (19%) claimed third and fourth place on the list of ten. Indeed, the opportunity to visit historical attractions was revealed as the most important factor of those

listed, when choosing a mini break destination (55%). In second place was having a variety of bars and restaurants (45%), followed by the availability of museums and galleries (39%). Good shopping (35%) and the opportunity to see nature and wildlife (33%) rounded off the top five.

The poll also revealed 72% of Brits said they would go on more or the same number of mini breaks in 2015 compared to 2014.

Claire Rowland, Director of Marketing at QHotels, said: "We're lucky to have so much history on our doorstep in Britain and it's pleasing to see so many of us are planning on getting out and exploring this year.

"York claimed a well-deserved place at the top of list but it was interesting to see how many other historic cities are in the top five and shows why historical attractions are the most important thing when choosing a destination for a mini break.

"It's also encouraging to see more than one in 10 of us (13%) is planning to go on more mini breaks in 2015 compared to 2014. If you're interested in exploring York, QHotels' Aldwark Manor Golf & Spa Hotel is a great base to see the area, or why not head to one of our two hotels in Stratford to explore Shakespeare's birthplace?"

QHotels is offering up to 40% off two-night stays in its January sale. You can stay from just £26.70 per person, per night at one of 27 luxury four and five-star hotels, throughout the UK. Make 2015 one to remember and book your 2015 break today QHotels.co.uk/WINTERSALE
