It's dubbed The Oscars of the hotel industry, and The Midland in
Manchester, part of QHotels, is celebrating after being awarded
Group Hotel of the Year at the prestigious Caterer and Hotelkeeper
For nearly 20 years, The Cateys, as they are better known, have
cast a spotlight on the industry's high flyers and hottest venues,
so it's not surprising that The Midland has beaten off stiff
competition, after such a successful year.
Rewarding the hospitality industry exemplars, with recipients
nominated, selected and rewarded by their industry peers, the
overall winners were crowned at an awards ceremony at The Grosvenor
House in London on Tuesday night.
The Midland received the
sought-after industry accolade having come top of the Group Hotel
of the Year category, ahead of The Caledonian Hotel in Edinburgh,
and The Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow who were also
Michael Magrane, General Manager at The Midland said: "We are
absolutely thrilled to have been crowned Group Hotel of the Year.
This award is the result of a team effort; everyone is dedicated to
creating the best possible experience for our guests and it's great
to receive such wonderful recognition."
He continued: "We've had an incredible year, our partnership
with Simon Rogan has resulted in two amazing restaurants and raised
our profile on a national level with the BBC documentary Restaurant
Wars, not to mention being shortlisted for City Hotel of the Year
at The Food and Travel Magazine Awards where we're up against The
Berkeley, and the Mandarin Oriental in Hyde Park. Most
importantly however, this award reaffirms The Midland's position as
one of the greatest grand hotels in the UK, and we're very proud to
bring this accolade to Manchester."

I have been coming here for 15 years with my wife and have attended many conferences here a sensational hotel and a worthy winner. Well done to the team
Stayed here a few months ago with my wife and it was fantastic! I’m a conference organiser and was visiting the hotel as a possible future venue and will definitely return both personally and with work. The hotel staff were very polite and professional....keep up the good work!!

My wife and I have stayed in a number of Manchester Hotels, some of which boast five stars, none of which compare to The Midland.
A real grand hotel with a sense of traditional ambience, but more importantly, a feel of home.
We got engaged at The Midland back in December 2009 and the staff helped to make sure that the proposal went superbly ... even arranging for the pianist to play a special piece that I supplied as sheet music. (Me being me, this was a last minute arrangement and the staff jumped through hoops backwards to help).
We have always been treated like royalty whenever we have stayed at The Midland (and we are just ordinary customers, not big spenders).
I am thrilled to see The Midland receiving the recognition that they deserve by way of this award.

We love staying at The Midland, it's always a brilliant experience, I have stayed in some amazing hotels around the world and I always use The Midland as the benchmark. Congratualtions to the whole team, it's well deserved, and a great result for Manchester as a whole.
If the treatment your hotel guests have received is a good as the welcome we get at the front door, followed by Michaels excellent service whilst having afternoon tea closely followed by the helpfulness of the gym staff including my husband's personal trainer Jordan, I am not surprised you have received this accolade. Long my this recognition continue for all the hotel staff
