How we're addressing the big issues for event profs

Event Profs Panel HBAA

Over the past year we've hosted a number of round table events for our panel members to come together and discuss their concerns within the industry. As a result of this our latest Event Profs Panel round table at Chesford Grange brought the HBAA's Executive Director Juliet Price, together with young event profs on the panel, to address some of the issues and suggest possible solutions.

The issues fell into three main categories: tackling industry perceptions, attracting new talent and nurturing and developing event professionals. The result was a series of potential actions for the future including:

  • Lobbying for a professional body with 'Chartered Institute' status
  • Highlighting role models with a spotlight on transferrable skills
  • Creating a careers hub for the events industry
  • Banishing unpaid internships & improving placement schemes
  • Improving the perception of apprenticeships

We are now working closely with the HBAA, to discuss how we can progress these suggestions into actions throughout the year.  We are also encouraging other organisations and events professionals to join in the discussion and debate to help us shape the future of events.
