Meet the General Manager of The Queens, Leeds

You joined QHotels in July, how have you spent your time so far?

Getting to know the team and our key clients whilst at the same time exploring the true potential of The Queens in terms of the stunning meeting and banqueting facilities we have at the hotel.  The hotel has a rich and prestigious history and I want to ensure any changes or improvements we make at The Queens emphasise and proudly promote that sense of grandeur and Art Deco design.

How long have you been in the hospitality industry?

Forever...starting at the age of 14 in my family business in the Peak District, I have never looked back.

Have you noticed any trends in the Leeds hotel market?

Event organisers/planners want much more variety for their events, many are working really hard to deliver a memorable experience to support key messages from their events.  This is great news for The Queens as we have great flexibility over what we can offer our events, both in terms of food and beverage and the range of spaces we have available for the events.  We also have great links with the city's attractions and businesses so we are always able to create an agenda to impress.

Are there any changes coming up at The Queens you can reveal?

Our primary focus is the development of our meeting and event space.  We've already refurbished five of our conference rooms this year, taking the facilities to new levels with fully integrated AV equipment and a contemporary design that really compliments the meeting rooms and helps us meet the needs of the modern delegate.  We have also invested in our main ball room with re-decoration and the installation of new user friendly LED lighting which allows us to really differentiate our events.  2017 will see further investment to ensure our conference and events facilities continue to stand out from the competition.

What sets The Queens apart from other hotels in Leeds?

We have so many differentiating factors; our design, the flexibility of our meeting space, our amazing team (so our guests tell us every day) and our history.  The year the hotel will enjoy it's 80th birthday, we have a range of events organised, one of which is a very special new banqueting dinner package.  The menu has been taken from the original gala dinner which was served at the opening event in 1937.  The menu has been re-designed using all the classic elements of the original menu served with a contemporary twist.

Outside of work, how do you like to spend your time?

I have twins...next question!

Other than The Queens, which is your favourite property in the QHotels group and why?

Without doubt Slaley Hall in Northumberland, it has such a great sense of character and stunning facilities.  It's a great destination to escape to and relax with friends and family, the team are genuinely welcoming and there is so much to explore in that part of the world.

Explore The Queens here.
