14.5 months planning their big day

£750 on average on their wedding dress

The average big day costs £8,650.

51% got married in summer on average

Half of couples we surveyed tied the knot in summer (51%), 21% in spring and 20% in autumn. Less than one in ten (8%) braved the chill by choosing a Winter Wedding.

33% Wed in a Registry office

A third of couples had their wedding ceremony in a registry office (33%) whilst over a quarter had it in a church (26%).

Hotels hosted 17% of the ceremonies, and 14% said 'I do' on the beach.

30% held their reception in a hotel

30% of couples had their reception in a hotel, 16% chose a local pub. A manor house was the setting of choice for 14% while other venues included a converted barn (9%), a golf club (3%), and the couple's own home (2%).

34% went for a traditional theme

A third (34%) of couples went for a traditional theme, 29% chose 'modern', and 15% created a vintage-inspired day. The Great Gatsby set the scene for 7% of couples.

52% used a professional photographer

Over half of couple hired a professional photographer (52%) for the day.  22% chose a photographer and videographer.  19% asked guests to take their own pictures and share them afterwards. 3% set up a wedding hashtag for guests to use when posting on social media.

Data gathered by OnePoll on behalf of QHotels.*Total sample size was 1,500 adults married in the last five years.  Fieldwork was undertaken between 10th July, 2014 - 17th July, 2014. The survey was carried out online. The figures have been weighted and are representative of all UK adults (aged 18+).
