The Colony is reformed at The Midland
Friday 17th November 2006
Thursday 2nd November saw the glitzy re-launch of The Colony restaurant at The Midland hotel. Manchester’s business elite gathered to celebrate the opening of the eagerly awaited restaurant at Manchester’s highly acclaimed venue.
With contemporary features and classic style The Colony restaurant was a huge success on its opening night. Guests were welcomed by a champagne reception and the soulful sounds of crooner Cole Page with several jazz and swing numbers from the glamorous Jessica Tansey.
Throughout the evening invited guests were treated to a selection of delicious examples from The Colony’s brand new menu. Delicacies were creatively miniaturised on the night to serve the VIP’s with bite sized dishes; a taster of Cauliflower Soup with a welsh rarebit topping and mini Salmon Fishcakes with a mango chilli salsa were just some of the starters on offer, and the bite sized main courses, such as the deep fried hake and The Colony Beef burger could only be described as delicious.
The Midland is steeped in history and is renowned for bringing the business elite together, with Rolls and Royce being possibly the most famous partnership formed in the Hotel.
General Manager Mike Magrane says: “The naming of the restaurant reflects a part of the Hotel’s impressive history. When The Midland first opened in 1903 the room was the original dining restaurant for the Hotel, and American cotton traders regularly met up there. They gave themselves the nickname of the ‘Old Colony Club’ so when we decided to return the room back to it’s original purpose we decided it would be a fitting tribute to the traders to name the restaurant after them – hence The Colony!”
The Colony restaurant at The Midland is now open for lunch or dinner bookings, including pre-theatre dinner. For further information, or to book telephone 0161 236 3333.
