Queens Hotel Celebrates after £10m refurbishment
Monday 14th November 2005
The 12th November saw The Queens, part of the QHotels group celebrate the completion of it's £10m refurbishment with style, elegance and glamour. The High Society Ball was a huge success with over 200 conference agents and VIPs from the city in attendance.
The High Society theme was taken from the film of the same name because of the hotels connection with Princess Grace, who stared in the film before she became a Princess.
Princess Grace and her husband Prince Rainier visited the Queens in 1972 when they were guests at The Monoco Ball, other Hollywood names on the guest list included Carry Grant , David Niven and Roger Moore.
A Louis Armstrong look alike performed the role of MC for the evening, trumpeting guests into dinner. When seated, Michael Purtill MD of QHotels welcomed the guests and presented Joanne Mackman, who gave Princess Grace her flowers in 1972 as a little girl, a bouquet from QHotels.
Guests were treated to a montage of 1940's song and dance from SLP College, Leeds. Barry Norman was the guest of honour who enthralled his audience with his after dinner speech regaling stories of the stars of High Society and his own experiences on Film 2000 .The evening ended with a spectacular display of indoor fireworks, to celebrate the relaunch of The Queens.
