ART-LOVERS HAVE A SHOE-IN TO SPECIAL RATES AT THE NOTTINGHAM BELFRY
Monday 24th April 2006
Visitors to the Nottingham leg of British Art Show 6 can picture themselves enjoying a luxury stay at the four-star Nottingham Belfry for a special art-lovers’ rate of just £59.50.The newly-built Nottingham Belfry, decorated with stunning original artwork depicting the area’s rich culture, is just the place to relax and kick off your shoes after viewing sculpture, painting, film, performance and public projects from 50 artists and artists’ groups.
That’s if you’ve still got your footwear - one artist is inviting art fans to swap their shoes for a second-hand pair while viewing his work!
Adam Chodzko has been collecting shoes from residents in the Basford suburb of Nottingham and he hopes that the choice of donated shoes will influence the visitor’s walk through the show and their perception of it. Don’t worry, you do get your shoes back – and the donated footwear will be donated to Oxfam afterwards.
The quinquennial British Art Show visits Nottingham from 21 April to 25 June, the first time it has come to the East Midlands. QHotels launched the £22 million Nottingham Belfry in February as the hippest and most stylish spa hotel in the region, making it the perfect place to stay for discerning visitors who appreciate art that gives a contemporary nod to Nottingham’s colourful heritage.
The hotel’s Lawrence Restaurant is decorated with works by Fine Art students from Nottingham Trent University inspired by the novels of D.H. Lawrence and Chatterley’s Bar boasts a large print from the 1955 film treatment of the author’s most notorious novel. Seven box frames feature vintage bicycles made by local firm Raleigh and a specially-commissioned textile hanging by Sharon Ting has been inspired by bicycle wheels and spokes.
The Nottingham Belfry is easy to find, close to J26 of the M1, less than four miles from the city centre, offering the ideal base from which to explore the city’s many attractions.
The special art-lovers’ price of £59.50 per person per night is based on two people sharing a twin or double bedded room for a minimum of two nights, with dinner, full English breakfast, and use of the spa and leisure facilities, including indoor pool, sauna and steam room.
And with a deal like that, who wouldn’t want to be in your shoes?
