To that end, QHotels promotes the best use of environmental practices and continual improvement, so that it can play an increasing role in building a sustainable future.
QHotels aims to take environmental considerations into account in all its activities. More particularly the company aims to:
- Encourage increasing involvement in environmental issues throughout the organisation and generation of eco-friendly initiatives, through the formation of QHotels Green teams in all hotels and support functions.
- Promote environmental awareness and training as part of the QHotels’ staff induction process
- Work with its suppliers to encourage increasing usage of environmentally friendly products and supplies
- Endeavour to purchase recycled goods when possible and to recycle toner cartridges, newspapers, paper, plastics, cardboard, glass, polythene, etc
- On guest request, re-use guest toweling
- Rigorously promote energy conservation and reduced energy consumption through controls on water and heating temperatures, insulation and timer systems
- Daily monitoring of utility consumption to aid reducing consumption levels
- Reduce, reuse and recycle waste where possible and provide responsible disposal, particularly with regard to hazardous and solid waste
- Promote environmentally responsible policies in all its commercial activities, including purchasing and investment
- Strive to eliminate the release of pollutants, to be achieved by the application of discharge controls, and also by initial assessment and continuing evaluation of the appropriateness of, and need for, any activity which could have an impact on the environment
- To install environmentally friendly and energy saving features when renovating or building new facilities such as dual flush toilets, showers rather than baths, card pocket systems to control lighting, use of low energy lighting, energy saving materials, etc
- Adopt an environmentally sound transport strategy, encouraging the use of cycles, car share and shared taxis for staff and diesel company cars
- Use motion detectors, dimmers and low energy lighting throughout hotels wherever feasible
- Take into consideration the likely environmental effects of company activities and developments on the local community
- Provide fair trade tea, coffee and hot chocolate in its bedrooms and some of its conference and meeting rooms
- Offer more sustainable conferencing through conserving unnecessary use of paper and pens
- Expect similar environmental standards from all parties with whom the company deals
