A host of sights to see

Just 5 miles from the city centre, The Nottingham Belfry is ideal for discovering the sights and shops that Nottingham has to offer.  Discover the famous lace market, or visit the castle and the underground caves.  The city is a shoppers paradise with high street shops and designer boutiques.  Further afield, no visit to Nottingham would be complete without a walk in the beautiful Sherwood Forest.

We Recommend

City of Caves

Landmarks and Historical

Enter and explore a whole new world in the caves underneath Nottingham city and descend into the dark depths of the original Anglo-Saxon tunnels, meeting real cave-dwellers from its dramatic hidden past. Caves include a tannery, air raid shelter and Victorian slum.

Nottingham Castle

Houses, Gardens and Parks

Situated high above the city, Nottingham Castle was once a medieval castle built by William the Conqueror, which was demolished during the civil war. Now a Seventeenth Century mansion, built over 300 years ago, with a range of historical art exhibitions, underground caves and a bronze statue of Robin Hood and his Merry Men.

Nottingham Ghost Walk

Houses, Gardens and Parks

The 'Original Nottingham Ghost Walk' was set up in 1993 and has been going strong ever since. Be led around the older parts of the City near the Castle, where the street plan is almost 1000 years old, and hear lots of ghost stories.  The walk operates every Saturday and starts from Maid Marian Way.

Experience Nottingham

Robin Hood & Sherwood Forest

Landmarks and Historical

Everyone has heard of Robin Hood, Nottinghamshire's most famous son and the world's favourite folk hero. His adventures have been retold for generations. Come and explore Sherwood Forest and see beautiful woodland, including Robin's world-famous hideaway, the Major Oak.

Take a walk around the picturesque forest, stepping back in time and experience one of many organsied Robin Hood events. Step back in time and go to an event organised by Nottingham Medieval Banquets. See characters such as Will Scarlett and the evil Sheriff of Nottingham brought to life as you tuck into a hearty meal and listen to live music from the minstrel.

Over the course of the year, Nottinghamshire hosts the Robin Hood Festival at Sherwood Forest and the Robin Hood Pageant at Nottingham Castle. There's also the annual Robin Hood Beer Festival at Nottingham Castle and the Robin Hood Half Marathon to look forward to.
