with
University College Birmingham
QHotels, the award-winning collection of 21 unique hotels across the UK, has become the first hotel group in the UK to be accredited with a Certificate of Higher Education in Professional Hospitality Operational Management, in partnership with University College Birmingham for its QED management development programme.
The two-year programme, is designed to develop QHotels’ future supervisors and managers, and is aimed at both current employees with supervisory and management potential and ambitious individuals wishing to join the industry.
The programme will be delivered by QHotels’ specialist senior managers and directors, using a mix of classroom-based modules, work-based learning and professional development planning.
Nichola Roskell, Director of Human Resources at QHotels, said: “We know that an integrated approach between education and industry is proven to work. Our programme will support those people wanting to get into senior roles within the hospitality industry, many of whom may be put off by higher education due to the forthcoming increase in fees. Over the past year alone we have received many enquires from 16-18 year olds looking for an alternative to full time education.
We are incredibly proud to partner with University College Birmingham to deliver this programme, which we are committed to delivering with consistently high quality structured training and fair and robust assessment methods. The programme will complement our already strong training and development offering, which includes our graduate scheme and Chef Academies.”
QHotels is looking to expand the certificate into other specialist areas of the business next year, with the priority being Spa which continues to be a key growth segment.
Michael Purtill, Managing Director at QHotels, said: “This is a first for our industry and demonstrates our commitment to the continued development of our team and ambitious individuals to join us. We know that high quality training and development is essential, and our programme offers just this. Within the next 12 months, we have further plans to develop a Trainee Management Programme incorporating a foundation degree”.
The Certificate of Higher Education in Professional Hospitality Operational Management will be gained on successful completion of QHotels’ internal QED management development programme, which has been in place since 2008.
