In August Engage4Life ran two one-week conferences at the
Stratford Manor for 160 young adults. Chloe Nordigian of the
Stratford Manor Events Team explains how they made sure this event
was a success:
Engage4Life deliver the National Citizen Service, a Government
Flagship youth engagement programme. Promoted as a once in a
lifetime opportunity for participants aged 15 - 17, the scheme
allows them to develop their confidence, learn new skills, forge
new friendships and make a positive difference in their
What event space did they need at Stratford
Engage4Life required large conference space with syndicates. In
the main conference room they ran workshops and in the syndicates
they ran bespoke events of 'music klub', 'smoothie making' and
'film making'. We even sectioned off an area of the car park for
driving lessons.. At the end of each evening the groups got back
together in the conference space to present all they had done
during the day.
What did we do especially for them?
We created bespoke menus for themed dinners each night including
Italian, Mexican and American. On the last day we held a
celebratory BBQ. The hotel bedrooms were adapted to accommodate
this group, including buying additional beds. Our team also
organised fruit baskets to be delivered to the conference rooms for
the group's smoothie-making activity. and even set up a 'tuck shop'
at our bar so the young adults could buy sweets, soft drinks and
What were the challenges?
It was important for us to balance the needs of this group of
young aduts with maintaining a professional corporate hotel for all
other guests. We managed this by building a close relationship with
the Engage4Life staff to ensure good communication and to avoid any
issues between the group and the other hotel guests
