The Romans knew what they were doing, settling in Gloucestershire. The scenery is so picturesque, it’s no wonder it’s been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural beauty. Maybe it was them who first dubbed it the heart of England. Maybe it was them who rolled the first cheese down Coopers Hill. We’ll never know.

But we do know that the Cheltenham Chase hotel is perfectly positioned to enjoy this lovely landscape, and the Romans would definitely have approved. Because they know a thing or 2 about indulgence as well; as you’ll see if you visit the complex bathhouse at the Roman Villa in nearby Great Witcombe. So we’ve taken a leaf out of their book and found plenty of ways to make you feel like an Emperor. Such as a rather splendid spa, complete with steam room, sauna, solarium, ice fountain and 3 treatment rooms.

The rooms are lavish; fit for a princess in fact, and Princess Anne is only one of a long list of notable guests that includes Andy McDowell and the cast of Harry Potter.

The staff at the Cheltenham Chase hotel are justifiably proud of our wonderful hotel and they put their all into getting every detail just so, from the way the jams are presented at breakfast to the glint on the teeth of our entrance hall statue; Henry the rearing Horse.

The hotel has a definite horse-led theme, being just half an hour from Cheltenham racecourse. It was built on the site of a hostel which housed injured airmen in World War 2. It’s just off Ermin street, built by the Romans to link Gloucester and Cirencester, and it’s close to the old Gloucester Aircraft Factory, whose legacy lives on in the names of our conference rooms; Merlin, Meteor, Javelin and Gladiator. Now we’re back to the Romans again.
