QHotels Buzzing About New Green Initiative

Stratford Manor, one of QHotels’ award-winning collection of 21 unique hotels, is providing guests with pure, fresh honey from its onsite beehives and, at the same time, reducing its environmental impact and raising money for Asthma UK.

The hotel has installed the beehives on its 21 acre site, in partnership with local beekeepers Peter and Sue Edwards, who manage around 150 hives in the local area.

The honey will be served at the breakfast buffet and sold at reception for £5 per jar, with 100% of the profits going to Asthma UK.

Guests interested in understanding more about the life of a bee and the importance of bees for the environment can request an ‘up close’ inspection of the Stratford Manor hives and an introductory talk by Peter, who has been a beekeeper for over 30 years and is a trustee of BIBBA (Bee Improvement and Bee Breeders’ Association).

General Manager of Stratford Manor, Keith Turnbull said: "The idea of keeping beehives originated with our CSR management team as part of our commitment to both the environment and local initiatives.

"We’re delighted to be supporting Asthma UK, QHotels’ charity of choice. There’s evidence that pure, locally-sourced honey can be of benefit to asthma sufferers and therefore it’s a great fit. What’s more, the honey tastes fantastic too. We’ve even had to export 24 jars to Asia following a request from a Japanese tour party who stayed here recently."
