Asthma UK - Putting asthma in the limelight

Asthma UK graph 2012

QHotels' National Charity for 2010-2012 was Asthma UK and across our group we managed to raise £62,000!

Since our partnership with Asthma UK began, we have participated in a wide range of money-raising activities to help us achieve our target, including:

  • "£1 on the pillow" initiative
  • Bagpuss pins for sale at Leisure Centre receptions
  • Our staff members have participated in a number of challenge events, including the London Marathon, Great North Run, Three Peaks Challenge and even a skydive
  • Hotel teams have put on their own community events, such as family fun days, bbqs and summer fetes

Why Asthma UK?

Asthma is a serious and widespread condition. Every 19 minutes a child is hospitalised due to a traumatic and life-threatening asthma attack and the equivalent of a large classroom of children die as a result of the condition every year. QHotels staff and customers are helping Asthma UK to support children with asthma, help keep them out of hospital and prevent needless asthma deaths.

Asthma UK's new Get It Off Your Chest campaign encourages those affected by Asthma to share their experiences and stories to raise awareness and support around the condition.

Did you know?

  • 5.4 million people in the UK have asthma
  • 3 people die from asthma every day
  • 1 in 12 of our customers or employees have asthma
  • 1 in 5 households are affected
  • So how many people do you know with asthma?

Our £62,000 will provide Asthma UK with vital funds to:

  • Enable 160 children with asthma to get control over their condition by going on an Asthma UK 'Kick Asthma holiday'
  • Provide 5,000 schools with resources to ensure that children with asthma are healthy, safe and achieve their potential
